Special Adoption Programs

Seniors for Seniors

Our Seniors for Seniors program brings senior citizens the benefits of pet ownership together with senior pets who need loving homes.

The program allows adopters, age 60 and older, to adopt a cat or dog, 7 years or older. The adoption fee will be reduced to $25, subject to an approved adoption application.

Why adopt a senior pet?

One benefit of adopting a senior pet is they are more laid back. They’ve outgrown the energy of being puppies and kittens so trying to keep up with them isn’t a problem. Usually they’re content to relax and live out their golden years with love and affection.

Puppies for Parole (P4P) is a unique program made possible through our partnerships with animal shelters and animal advocate groups statewide. Selected offenders have the opportunity to become trainers to rescue dogs in the program. Offenders work with the dogs teaching them basic obedience skills and properly socializing the animals, making them more adoptable. Once the dogs have successfully completed the program they will be sent back to their original shelter to be placed up for adoption.

Learn more about the partnership with the Maryville Treatment Center at the Missouri DOC website or follow their Facebook page.

We are proud to announce that all dogs that have completed our Puppies for Parole program with the Maryville Treatment Center have been adopted after their graduation.

Home 4 the Holidays

Each November and December, the New Nodaway Humane Society participate in Home 4 the Holidays. This is a nation-wide adoption drive that raises awareness about the importance of pet adoption during the holiday season.

Remember though, pets are a lifelong commitment and we do not recommend they be given as a surprise. Instead, we encourage you to make the surprise a trip to the shelter where the recipient can pick out their own pet.
